Publication date: September 3, 2013

Blurb:

After leaving a restrictive religious community, Rachel Hill is on a mission to divest herself of her virginity. Newly independent and struggling to establish herself, she’s not looking for anything complicated. She bids on sexy SWAT officer Ben Harris at a bachelor auction, confident he’ll give her the night of her life and nothing more.

But Ben is jaded and detached, living his life in an endless cycle of danger-fueled adrenaline jags, drinking, and sex. When he misses the fact that his bachelor auction hookup is a virgin, he’s shocked by his obliviousness, and by the risk she took. To make amends, Ben offers Rachel all he can: a no-strings-attached sexual education.

Ben’s lessons introduce Rachel to down and dirty passion, but she’s searching for something more profound than sex, and she’s willing to walk away to find it. Ben can’t get Rachel out of his head, but will he come to terms with his troubled past and learn to love?

Oh Ben.  I fell in love with you in Uncommon Pleasure and immediately had to find out if you were going to get your own story.  And look, here you are…a whole book full of you…just for me.

So to recap.  This will be me tomorrow morning:

Blurb:

A couture wedding dress designer to the rich and famous, Lexi LaCroix’s image means everything. But crossing paths with a sexier-than-sin, bad-boy biker makes Lexi realize how much living she’s sacrificed for her success and one touch is all it takes to threaten her carefully choreographed life. When that touch fills far more than just Lexi’s physical needs, she finds herself torn between the career she needs and the bad-boy she craves.

Jax Chamberlin gave up the superficial life of acting for the thrill of running his own stunt company years ago. But a recent betrayal proves he’s still too close to the limelight to find a woman who doesn’t plan to use him as a stepping-stone to success. When the charming and mysterious Lexi offers him a totally anonymous hook-up during an out of town trip, Jax accepts. Only Lexi is more sextacular than charming, and Jax wants more.

But Lexi’s got a major hang-up over his renegade lifestyle, and Jax isn’t willing to change his ways. Especially not when he discovers who she really is. Because if she finds out his connections could catapult her to the top of her career, he’s afraid the fantasy woman he’s falling for might just end up like all the other gold-diggers. And this time, it’s not just his bad-boy reputation at risk, but his heart, too.

I feel like someone just dropped a very beautifully wrapped present in my lap.  For real.  I kept track of this book via excerpts and I was literally rubbing my hands together!  I was soooo very happy when the book EXCEEDED my hopes and expectations.  (This is the part where I use my made up words.).

harry-met-sally_3867294_GIFSoup.com (1)

(this is how I felt Friday night)

This book was so frick fracking hot.  So passionate and steamy.  And at the same time, Lexi and Jax were so warm and affectionate with each other.  The word “Adoration” came to mind where Jax and Kexi are concerned.  Initially, they get to know each other via texting (which I loved reading) and they had chemistry from the very beginning.  Ms. Jordan pulled me in and had me by the throat throughout this whole book.  I didn’t want to stop reading Friday night/Saturday morning.  Frankly, if my youngest didn’t have a his birthday party, Saturday morning, I would’ve kept on reading.

I mean, they were trading measurements while texting each other in the airport!  It was…awesome.  I loved their rapport with each other:

JAX: You are not a hired killer.

She laughed out loud.

JAX: God, you’ve got a great laugh.

Get your ass in here.

Jax and Lexi were MFEO.  (Made for each other…Sleepless in Seattle shout out)  No two ways about it.  From the first text to the last page of the book, it was obvious that the writing Gods blessed Skye Jordan  (aka Joan Swan) when they planted Lexi and Jax in her head.

‘Hard and fast, Lex.’  His voice was dark in her ear.  His body wrapped around her.  His hand drove her.  And one of the last sensations that floated through Lexi’s mind was one of being completely taken over.  Yet safe.  Cared for.

So  yeah.  I’m struggling with this review only because it feels like I’m endlessly gushing.  And that’s all I can come up with right now.

But seriously, a beautifully written love story with passion and sex that was so deliciously edgy.  There is an oral sex scene and OMG…it’s one of the best I’ve ever read.  For real, have a cold drink nearby.   For instance:

Christ, the way he moved.  He made her see stars.  He didn’t thrust.  He rocked. Undulated.  Varied pressure.  Moved her hips to his strokes.  Like a dance.  The same way he kissed.  This wasn’t a fuck.  It was an art.

Ok.  If you haven’t gone and bought this yet.  Go now.  (well after the end of my review).  Because there are also, great secondary characters!  Wes and Rubi!  Rubi is such a great friend to Lexi.  She holds the mirror up for Lexi when she needs a kick in the pants and she is Hi-lari-ous. Rubi  talking about Wes:

‘You know he’s going to think about me when he does his girl tonight,’ Rubi said, her voice dreamy, watching Golden Boy’s truck disappear onto the 405.  ‘It’ll be the best sex he’s had in months.  And he’ll remember me.’

Rubi and Wes had their own boombastic chemistry going on.  I do hope we get more of them in the next books.  And yes…this is a series!  Which pleases me to no freaking end.  But I know I’m going to hate the wait.  HATE IT.  So, I’ll have to re read this one.  A lot.

So to conclude: Superhot and sexy and sweet guy = Jax.  Supersmart and hardworking and loving and passionate = Lexi.  So much yummy goodness in this book.  Go get it.  Seriously…go. Now. (Oh and Ms. Swan, you’re on my TBR list now for sure.  Especially after that tasty little morsel you gave us in the Wicked Firsts anthology, “First Temptation”)

Beating the DNF blues AKA Red River Series by Victoria James

I had 2 books I started this past weekend that I DNF’d at about 55%.  They just did not work for me.  I got an email from Entangled with some of their new releases and lo and behold, The Best Man’s Baby (A Red River Book)  by Victoria James jumped right out at me.  I grabbed it, knowing that it was the second book in the series. Now, normally I am absolutely anal about reading books in their intended order. Apparently, I was so desperate for a good book that I threw out all of my “reading rules” and went for it.

Let me tell you, I was not one bit sorry I did it.  I fell in love with Jake and Claire and their story.  But let me backtrack a bit here.  I went back and read the the first book in the series, A Risk Worth Taking: A Red River Series Book.

Riskworthedit.jpg Blurb:

Interior designer Holly Carrington worked hard for her success. Then tragedy struck, leaving Holly the sole guardian of her infant niece. Now she’s swapped her designer purse for a diaper bag, and is going ahead with plans to renovate—and sell—her childhood home in Red River. But facing her past also means coming face-to-face with Quinn Manning all over again…Quinn was the object of her girlhood crush—and heartbreak— and is more gorgeous than ever. He’s also the only person qualified to oversee the renovation. Now they’re butting heads every step of the way… and their attraction is more electrifying than ever! But once the house is sold, Holly needs to return to her real life. And falling for Quinn all over again is one risk she can’t take…

Quinn is absolutely delicious. I loved the history he and Holly had between them. The first two books the H/hs have a long history with each other and everyone grew up with each other.  Teenage crushes everywhere!   It’s nice to have the relationships/friendships already established and it really deepened the connection that they had with each other.  Quinn had a special connection with baby Ella from the very beginning and it was nice to see how that helped Quinn move on from some past experiences.  Loved these two and I’m kicking myself for not reading this first because I would’ve enjoyed Quinn and Holly more in the second book.

Speaking of the second book… The Best Man’s Baby (A Red River Book)

bestmanbabyedit The Blurb:

Florist Claire Holbrook has always played by the rules her entire life, but breaks them to spend one night with sexy lone wolf Jake Manning, a man she’s adored since she was a teenager. Six weeks later things get complicated when she discovers they created a bond that will last a lifetime…Jake has never played by the rules. Getting Minister Holbrook’s daughter pregnant wasn’t part of any life plan, but he won’t run from his responsibilities. He’ll step up and be the best man he can, even if he doesn’t have a clue where to begin. The more time he spends with Claire, though, the more he wants her, and the harder it is to get close because that would mean sharing the one thing he hasn’t with anyone–the truth and his heart.

Oh Jake…you big stud.  Jake certainly lives up to his bad boy reputation in the beginning of this one!  But, you gotta love Claire, she truly left him speechless when she told him that she was pregnant with his baby.  Seriously, that scene… I would love to tell you about it but it’s worth you reading for yourself.  Despite her upbringing, Claire is no shrinking violet!  She is a strong and confident woman and she owns her own floral design business.  I really liked her and I loved how she didn’t back down from Jake.  Now, to Jake’s credit, once he found out he was going to be a Daddy, he pulled his head from his ass and began working towards making Claire his.  The one thing that really struck me with both of these books was that our H/h’s all had some issues to deal with.  I mean, these weren’t crazy issues, they were real life issues.  The way Ms. James presents them, it creates a wonderful texture and layers to the characters.  It just sucked me in and endeared me to Quinn and Jake, especially.

Both books are 5 stars.  These are contemporary romances with some sexytimes!  I would not call them erotic but they are sexy and steamy nonetheless!!

So yeah.  Got get this series!  Next up is the 3rd brother, Evan.  Ummm, I need Evan’s story, like, NOW!!!  There is an excerpt from it in Jake and Claire’s book. Please, please, please Ms. James… I want Evan’s story.  PRONTO, STAT, ASAP!!! 😉

ARC Review: Finding West by June Gray

Blurb:

Kat Hollister is a tomboy who lives in t-shirts and dirty jeans and doesn’t give a shit what the world thinks. She lives alone in a small town in Alaska and closes everyone out, with only her dog Josie by her side. For Kat, love and relationships are for the weak, and she is anything but.

Until one cold night when she finds a stranger stumbling on the side of a dark road, a man who has lost his memory.

She gives him temporary shelter against the snowstorm, but what she doesn’t count on is the friendship that blooms. This man—who has no identity—starts to teach her things about herself she never knew, and she begins to wonder if maybe she’d been wrong about love and trust all along…

So, what do you do when you’re not fond of people in general and you stumble upon a guy who doesn’t know who he is?  Well, you bring him home and figure out that people in general aren’t so bad if you open yourself up to the possiblities.  I’ll admit that Kat was hard for me to connect with.  But, I think she is that way just by her nature.  She has learned to rely on herself, convincing herself that she doesn’t need anyone.  They all leave anyway… right?

“West” comes  along and rocks her boat.  Her realization that having someone around isn’t such a bad thing, especially he’s a whole hunk of burning love. (and “burning” is the key word, here) Lots of hot and steamy lovin’ in this one!!  I enjoyed West’s tranformation from not having a clue as to who he was or why he was in Alaska.  These two truly lost souls find each other just as much as they find themselves.  West discovers that he really wasn’t that great of a guy to begin with and as a reader, I wonder, is who we used to be as important as who we are right now?

And our girl, Kat, never truly realizes how beautiful or smart and talented she is until West is around to hold up a mirror and point these things out. He gives her a lot to think about as far as how she has hidden herself under baggy clothing and has also hidden her talents away from everyone.

Now, the name of being  ” Straight Shootin’ ” I’ll say that this has a mini cliffhanger of sorts.  But, I didn’t feel like “OMG, I can’t believe she is going to leave us hanging like this.”  I felt like it was a realistic “wrapping up” to this “phase” of Kat and West.  And don’t worry, we don’t have to wait long to enjoy the continuation of this one.

“Heading East” will be released in November of this year!  Definitely, something to look forward to.

Review: Rock Chick Revolution by Kristen Ashley

Self Purchase

Blurb:

Ally Nightingale has secrets. Secrets she doesn’t even share with the Rock Chicks. But two men know what she’s up to. One has her back. The other has her heart, but he doesn’t know it.

As Ally rewinds the last year of her life, she knows two things. One, she’s never going to get what every Rock Chick should have—her own Hot Bunch guy. And two, she’s a Nightingale through and through. She just isn’t sure what to do about that.

But as her secrets are revealed, the men in her life react. Darius Tucker, a lifelong friend, as usual takes her back. Ren Zano, the man she loves, isn’t quite so sure. The Rock Chicks, Hot Bunch and the entire gang at Fortnum’s weigh in, and a Rock Chick Revolution starts brewing.

It’s up to Ally to control it and prove what she knows down to her bones.  She’s a Rock Chick, she deserves her hot guy and she’s going to keep the one she wants… Because she’s a Nightingale.

Frankly, I’m a bit verklempt.  I’ve been thinking about this review for the last 24 hours.  What the heck could I say?  I’ve also been in a funk since I finished it.  Let’s face it, reviews on this book are EVERYWHERE and so I’m not reinventing the wheel.  I’m just going to tell you how this one made me FEEL.  That’s the super cool thing about this blogging thing.  (and it will be spoiler free to boot)

Ahem.  Oh Hell… it was awesome.  Better than I expected.  I had pretty much thought I was at peace with everything after Hector and Sadie, even though I knew Ally’s book was still to come.  I was… emotionally unprepared for the depth of what I felt at the end.  But somewhere between the beginning and the end… I laughed and I cried.  It was a beautiful thing.

This was 110% Ally’s journey.  Her journey to love and her journey to finding her true self and making sure EVERYONE else knew who she intended on being.  She didn’t compromise on any of it.  God Bless, Lee, Hank and Ren.  It takes a strong man to love a strong woman and Ally was surrounded by strong men.  Might’ve taken some longer than others to get on the Ally train but they all had their own good reasons.

Ren was so frickfrackin’ sexy:

Tomorrow, You’re in a nice dress.  My pick is the one you wore to Club, unless you’ve got another one that makes my dick harder faster, which, babe, just sayin’, will be a feat.  Then I’m taking you to a nice dinner, and you’re gonna share with me all of your hopes and dreams.

And frankly, I could fill up this page with my highlights from Ren.  But, again, I don’t want to give anything away.  Oh but Daisy… Daisy is quote-worthy for sure:

You got a choice spot here.  You don’t move some old desk into it, slap a computer on the top and say ‘I’m in business.’  You gotta send the right message.  And that message is you ain’t Rockford.  You’re Allyson Nightingale, a fine piece of badass ass with class who can take care of biznezz.

Amen Daisy.  Amen.

For me, reading Kristen Ashley books is like eating comfort food.  Or watching “comfort movies” like:  Sleepless in Seattle, Runaway Bride, You’ve Got Mail, and It’s Complicated.  I have “comfort tv” shows:  Beverly Hills, 90210, Golden Girls, Friends, Cosby Show and Big Bang Theory.  KA is total and complete comfort food for my brain and soul.  Read a bad book?  Re read Games of the Heart.  Read a heavy duty, intense book?  Re read Sweet Dreams.  I have a confession to make, I had never read a book more than once before KA came into my life.  And now, I can’t imagine not reading Motorcycle Man for the 4th (maybe 5th at this point) time.

So yeah.  RC 8 was fantastic.  It was all that and a bag of chips.  In fact, it was the cherry on top of one big, badass cake.

5 STARS.
